I specialize in helping women who are struggling with life transitions, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, somatic issues, marriage difficulties, and parenting. I come from a Christian perspective but enjoy working with persons of all faiths.
I believe change occurs by getting to the root cause. Therefore, I often utilize EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). EMDR is a therapy that helps individuals heal from symptoms and emotional distress that result from disturbing life experiences. I like to use EMDR when appropriate and agreeable as it can bring results quicker than talk therapy alone. To become proficient in EMDR, I took extra training to become certified by EMDR’s international organization, EMDRIA.
I have a personal interest in helping others recover from eating disorders. Research shows that working with a counselor who is recovered is a positive and significant experience for someone suffering with disordered eating. Along with personal experience, I have eating disorders certificates of completion from Forest Institute and Intuitive Eating and continue to receive education on eating disorder recovery.
Another population I enjoy assisting is children (ages 4-10) who struggle with controlling their emotions/behaviors. I love watching children develop self confidence and become more functional at home, school, and in personal relationships. I find play therapy techniques and Positive Discipline most helpful for this population.
